My fascination with leather started in my early childhood, when I spent the weekends dinking cafecitos, pricing saddles, bridles, cowboy boots, hats, and western wear at my great-grandmother and grandmother’s store, The Cowboy Center, down in Miami, FL. I would watch the leatherman there sew saddles, leather chaps, resole boots, and dye whole hides of leather.
I was working as a tattoo artist in 2020 when I realized I wanted to pursue an education in design. This led me to the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I completed my BFA in Accessory Design in 2026. I remember the first time I stitched through leather; I sewed a few patches on an old pair of Doc Martens. Ever since that moment, I was hooked. Thank you to my great-grandmother, Melissa Campos, and my grandmother, Cookie Haviland; I was able to salvage some of the old leather, zippers, and hardware from the Cowboy Center before it closed. This has enabled me to produce the majority of my projects today.
Mia Larson //
Mia Larson is an accessory designer with a brutalist-oriented aesthetic, currently based in Savannah, Georgia. Larson spends her time exploring urban decay and places off the beaten path. This is where the designer sources most of her inspiration. She finds beauty and meaning in the unknown and disregarded elements, projecting this mystic quality within her work. This is translated through hand-dyed and distressed leathers, handcrafted steel hardware, and found objects when applicable. Based on her choice of material and natural methods of treating leather, one can find harmony, as well as a sense of freedom and disassociation from a structured society. The designer values quality of life, quality of product, and quality over quantity. This love for the craft is evident through a strong attention to detail and timeless hours spent perfecting her craftsmanship. She celebrates her work today under the name Son Of Lars.
